How to get rid of earwigs
Earwigs are a household pest that usually do not cause a lot of problems
indoors. They are a big pest to plants and often build their habitats in foundations of houses. They
can be controlled by removal of their habitats. If you have earwigs you will most likely be aware because of
their foul smelling excretion. If you notice a problem it is smart to take care of it right away because they
multiple quickly.
Earwigs are a red-brown problem and have a set of pinchers which make them easy to
recognize. They are usually active at night. They eat almost anything and can be very hazardous to
plants. They usually live outside the home around the foundation. They like piles of leaves, straw or
mulch.
To get rid of earwigs you should first get rid of anything around the outside of your home that
could serve as living quarters for them. Then you should spray around the foundation and around other outside
areas, like garbage cans. Inside you should hang vapor strips around all windows, doors and plumping.
You should seal all cracks and crevices where they could get for outside. Newspapers are a common
hiding spot, so make sure to throw out old newspapers and not let the pile up. If you notice them in your
plants you should remove them and place them and dispose of them. Like any bug, the more clutter you have,
the more hiding spots they have. You may wish to check any area of your home that may serve as a food source
so you can treat it for earwigs.
Earwigs do not usually nest inside, so by taking care of the outside area around your homes
foundation you should be able to stop the problem. If you still see them in your home then use strips and
sprays to treat areas.
